President's Message

2018-2019 GAA President

Deborah Woodward, Au.D.

Dear Georgia Academy of Audiology Members,

As the new President, of GAA I have had to learn over the last several months GAA organizational needs.  I have reviewed the issues that our profession faces on a National and State level and feel it is very important for GAA members to be updated on these concerns and your necessary involvement.

I would like to re-iterate to all members the importance of having a STRONG lobby team who will work to protect the interest of our Georgia Audiologists.  As many of you may be aware, the National as well as local scope of practice is what defines us as Audiologists.  The state of Georgia licensure board is being actively petitioned by the HIS community to approve many of the tasks that define us as audiologists.  HIS are now actively doing cerumen management and tinnitus therapy. Physical Therapy is now performing vestibular testing. We must have lobbyists in the Georgia Capitol protecting our scope of practice as our jobs and livelihood are defined by our state licensure and continued awareness of possible infringements from other disciplines.

The invaluable services from our great lobbyists does not come without a price.   As your President, I am imploring you to support/protect your GAA organization by doing one or both of the following.

PLEASE consider making a donation to the GAA PAC fund.  Any amount is appreciated and will help us to continue to protect our profession in the State of Georgia. You may send a check for this donation to Georgia Academy of Audiology , P.O. Box 420786, Atlanta, Georgia 30342.

Secondly, please commit to enlisting one or more colleagues to join GAA!  Currently we have 67 committed audiologist who are paid members out of 400 licensed audiologists in our State.  The more members we have in GAA the larger our voice when it comes to our scope of practice and protecting our profession.

Your support is greatly appreciated and with a united front GAA will continue to move our mission forward!

Thanks in advance for your support!

Deborah Woodward, AuD

GAA President 2018-2019
